Heroes spinoff put on hold

4 stars out of 5.0
A mini-series accompanying the second season of popular sci-fi TV show Heroes has been put on hold indefinitely by US network NBC.

According to Variety, production on the six-part Heroes: Origins has been shelved indefinitely. Sources close to the project maintain it was due to the forthcoming writers' strike in Hollywood.

The series was set to tell six separate stories about new characters with special abilities, leaving viewers to choose their favourite and see this one join the main series.

While the show remains widely popular in the UK where the first season is now out on DVD, the second season - currently showing in the US - has received some criticism for straying too far off from the show's best storylines.

Whether Heroes: Origins makes it to the small screen is yet to be seen, but in the meantime fans can catch up on what is still an addictive and original show.
