Steven Spielberg to be honoured for "outstanding contribution"

Legendary director Steven Spielberg is to be honoured for his "outstanding contribution" to the film industry at a ceremony next year, it was announced today.

The 2008 Golden Globe Awards will see the Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan director given the Cecil B DeMille prize for "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field".

Scheduled for January 13th, the Golden Globes may coincide with Spielberg's ongoing post-production for the next Indiana Jones instalment, which has been titled Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

He was called a "one-of-a-kind talent" when the announcement about the award was made by actor Josh Brolin in Beverly Hills.

Spielberg is soon to turn 61 but has been as busy as ever lately, having executive produced the recent Transformers movie and produced other films such as Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.
