Generation Game remake shelved
The move comes after a pilot for the new version of the show - hosted by Lily Savage's alter ego Paul O'Grady - reportedly went badly.
But, according to The Sun, the BBC are still looking at bringing the classic programme back to the small screen.
Potential replacements to original host Bruce Forsyth included Graham Norton or Johnny Vaughan, but these have since been ruled out.
The pilot to the new series, which pits the older generations against the younger ones in a series of tasks, were said to go wrong after O'Grady complained of getting injured by stunts.
The programme hit screens in 1971 and returmed after a nine-year break to run from 1981 to 1990. Along with Forsyth, Larry Grayson, Roy Castle and Jim Davidson have hosted the comedy game show.
