Lost season 4 'will have 13 episodes'
As the writers' strike looks to be nearing a conclusion, executive producer and writer Carlton Cuse told the Hollywood Reporter that the team will try to make as many episodes as they have time to.
Although eight are already in the bag, the goal is to produce another five, meaning some plotlines may hit the cutting room floor when three episodes are shelved.
"We're going to have to hit the ground running, go from zero to 100 mph in a matter of days to make as many episodes as possible," Cuse added. "We will have to condense some stories."
UK viewers of the fourth series may have had a shock during the first episode when a face from the past reappeared - even though he is presumed dead.
The scene formed part of Hurley's flash-forward, which saw him back in an institution after thinking he had hallucinated.
