Sam makes worthy star for Terminator Salvation
Trade paper Variety says that Cameron, who directed the original Terminator and its 1991 follow up Terminator 2: Judgment Day, recommended Worthington after working with him on his own project, Avatar, which is currently filming in New Zealand.
Although the plot of Terminator Salvation is closely guarded, Worthington will reportedly play Marcus, a leading figure in the fight against Skynet, the evil computer system that attempts to wipe out humanity.
Batman Begins and American Psycho star Christian Bale is already signed up to lead the plucky band of survivors as John Connor.
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is the fourth installment of the franchise, following T3: Rise of the Machines, which took $430 million (£219 million) worldwide.
