Anti-Bush movie wins at Cannes

US director Michael Moore's anti-Bush documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" has beaten 18 other films to win the best film award at the Cannes festival.

The movie delves into the Iraq war and accuses the President George W Bush of liaising with major Saudi Arabian families, including the Bin Ladens.

Moore uses his ironic style to accuse the US ruler of manipulating the 2000 presidential elections, not heeding terrorism warnings before the September 11th attacks in 2001 and scaring Americans into supporting the war in Iraq.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" is the first documentary film to win Cannes Palme d'Or since Jacques Costeau's "The Silent World" in 1956.

"I want to make sure if I do nothing else for the rest of this year that those who died in Iraq have not died in vain," said the director in his acceptance speech.

He added: "You will ensure that the American people will see this movie."

South Korean movie "Old Boy", directed by Park Chan-wook, won the Grand Prize of The Jury at the festival.
