No saving Meg Ryan in '100 best films' listThe "highly subjective" list gives top tens in ten different categories - drama, thiller/action, comedy, romance, animation, kids, horror, musicals, documentary and world cinema. Francis Ford Coppolla's 1974 movie The Conversation tops the drama poll, while Hitchcock classic North By Northwest takes the top spot for thriller/action - beating out the likes of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Heat and The 39 Steps. Another Hitchcock flick, 1960 chiller Psycho, is named number one horror film, with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe comedy Some Like It Hot crowned best comedy in a field that includes Withnail & I, Tootsie and Stir Crazy. Relative newcomer Before Sunrise is the newspaper's pick over the likes of Brief Encounter, Casablanca and The Lady Vanishes in the romance stakes, while drama-documentary American Splendour wins the factual category. Back To The Future is named best children's film over E.T. and in a surprise choice, surrealist Czech film Dimensions Of Dialogue tops The Jungle Book, Toy Story and Finding Nemo for animation. West Side Story, which won ten Oscars in 1961, is anointed best musical and the world cinema accolade goes to 1925 Soviet classic Battleship Potemkin.
