Sarah Marshall wins hearts at box office

Forgetting Sarah Marshall starring Jason Segel, Kristen Bell and Russell Brand has swept cinemagoers off their feet and claimed the top spot in this week's UK box office chart, according to new figures from Nielsen.

The break-up comedy took over £2.14 million since opening in the UK to debut at number one, comfortably ahead of fellow new entry The Eye, a thriller starring Jessica Alba.

Together they pushed previous box office king 21 with Kevin Spacey and Jim Sturgess down to third place.

Rom-com adventure Fool's Gold - starring newly-crowned People magazine's Most Beautiful Person in the World Kate Hudson - was at four, while joyfully black comedy In Bruges spent its eighth week on the chart at number five.

Heart-warming Brit-com Son Of Rambow laughed all the way to the number six slot, ahead of new entry Deception - starring Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman - at seven.

Action flick Street Kings was at eight, closely followed by family hit The Spiderwick Chronicles, which stars Nick Nolte, Mary-Louise Parker and Freddie Highmore of The Golden Compass.

Finally, Mike Leigh's chirpy slice-of-life drama Happy-Go-Lucky had something to smile about, celebrating its second week on the chart at number ten.
