Stars pay tribute to Ledger at premiere
Christian Bale, Sir Michael Caine and Gary Oldman all graced a black carpet and spoke of their admiration for their co-star's performance as The Joker
The Australian actor died in January from an accidental overdose, but his role as Batman's nemesis has led to speculation that he could be given a posthumous Oscar.
"It's the best performance of a villain I have seen," said Caine.
Gary Oldman, who plays Lieutenant Jim Gordon in the film, added: "I haven't seen a villain like this, or a bad guy like this, since Dennis Hopper played Frank Booth in Blue Velvet - this out-scares Hannibal Lecter."
Christian Bale, who is starring as the caped crusader in Christopher Nolan's film, said: "It is tragic he is not here, but I am here to see his talents and celebrate it and I hope everybody will."
The Dark Knight goes on general release in the UK on July 25th.
