Vicar supports Life Of Brian ban

A plan to lift the ban imposed on Monty Python's film The Life Of Brian in Aberystwyth has been opposed by the town's vicar.

Sue Jones-Davies, who played Brian's girlfriend in the movie, recently became mayor of the town, but was surprised to learn the movie still cannot be screened.

Many religious groups picketed the film on its release, claiming the story of a Jewish man mistake for the messiah was blasphemous.

Now Stuart Bell, vicar of the town's St Michael's Church, has said the ban on the 30 year old movie should still stand.

"The film at its root is poking fun at Christ and we don't want that to happen. I don't think that the film should be shown. Why should the ban be removed?" he said.

"If someone was going to make fun of my wife in a film then I would oppose that.

He concluded that he was bound to be offended by the film, as he loves Jesus "more than my wife".
