Shane Richie's film debut flops
Shoreditch, in which Richie stars opposite Joely Richardson, took just £2,272 at the box office.
The actor, best known as lovable landlord Alfie Moon in EastEnders, ploughed a whopping half a million pounds of his own money into the film in order to get it made.
Richie remortgaged his house for the project and now stands to lose a packet after the film was forced to close just a week after opening at two cinemas due to dire sales.
At the premiere last November, Richie said: "I've put my money where my mouth is and I just hope the public want to go and see it."
Romantic thriller Shoreditch is set in 1930s London and sees Richie play a nightclub owner who falls for a beautiful jazz singer (Richardson).
The film was savaged by critics and opened at just two screens. The Times described it as "a lamentable vanity project" and "a strong contender for the worst film of the decade."
An array of EastEnders actors attended the premiere to support Richie, including Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) and Chris Parker (Spencer Moon).
