Bereaved Bonham Carter attends premiere
The 37-year-old stars as a witch in partner Tim Burton's latest flick Big Fish.
However, the actress, who recently became a mother for the first time, was too upset to talk to the media at the London premiere.
She arrived at the event with Burton, the father of her three-month old son Billy Ray, wearing a simple black dress and silver belt.
Bonham Carter's father Raymond, 74, a merchant banker, suffered a malignant tumour which left him partially sighted and disabled in 1979.
Burton directs the storytelling fantasy film, which was nominated yesterday for seven Bafta awards.
Burton, who also directed Edward Scissorhands and Batman, told reporters he was delighted about the Bafta nominations. "It was a very nice surprise, it's wonderful to be surprised," he said.
Actor Ewan McGregor, who also stars in the movie, appeared in a dark suit, accompanied by his French wife Eve Mavrakis.
The film's cast entered the Leicester Square cinema on a specially laid carpet of grass, rather than the traditional red carpet.
Big Fish is the story of a relationship between a father and son. Storyteller Edward Bloom - played by Albert Finney - is an old man whose tall tales about his younger years, fail to impress his son. The young Edward, travelling the world and experiencing fantastical adventures, is played by McGregor.
