Joaquin Phoenix quits movies for music
The 34-year-old actor told Extra that his forthcoming film Two Lovers, with Gwyneth Paltrow, will be his last.
"I want to take this opportunity ... also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor," Phoenix said at a benefit in San Francisco to honour Paul Newman.
"I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."
The actor - who was Oscar-nominated for his roles in Gladiator and The Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line - has reportedly been working on an album with the Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess.
Joaquin performed all of Johnny Cash's famous songs in Walk The Line, for which he won a Grammy award.
He also retreated from the public eye in 1993, when his brother river Phoenix died from a drug overdose outside a Los Angeles nightclub.
