Lord of the Rings dominates US film awards
The Return Of The King beat nine other films to take the top prize, while Peter Jackson was named best director. The film also took the best acting ensemble prize and Howard Shore won best composer for his soundtrack.
Other winners included Sean Penn, who won best actor for Mystic River, and Charlize Theron, who was crowned best actress for Monster.
Ms Theron won for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, while Renee Zellweger was voted best supporting actress for her part in Anthony Minghella's adaptation of Cold Mountain.
Mystic River was the only other film to win more than one accolade, with Tim Robbins winning best supporting actor.
Members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association voted for The Critics Choice Awards, which were presented at a Beverly Hills hotel late Saturday.
Many view the awards as indicators of which films are likely to achieve Oscars success next month.
