Lost Planet to get huge budget
Game developer Capcom has announced that the film adaptation of third-person shooter Lost Planet will cost up to $200 million (£143.3 million) to produce.
On behalf of the company, Toshihiro Tokumaru stated that the film would involve Avi Arad and cost at least $150 million.
"Speaking of 'Lost Planet', that project will cost somewhere between 150 and 200 million dollars to make. The producer on the project is Avi Arad, producer of Spider-Man," he said.
He went on to say that the film would expand on the game's characters, their upbringings and relationships, in a bid to "add substance" to the narrative.
Capcom recently won the Grand Award at the Tokyo Game Show for Monster Hunter Freedom 2G, an award-winning hunting game.
The game sold more than two million copies in Japan during a six month period and has since become the country's most popular title.
Capcom recently produced the movie Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
