Slumdog misses out in movie awards
Hunger has scooped top prize at the London Evening Standard Film Awards - with Oscar favourite Slumdog Millionaire missing out on all the major gongs.
The picture, which tells the story of Irish Republican Army hunger-striker Bobby Sands, won the Best Film honour at the event in the capital on Sunday (01Feb09).
Filmmaker Mike Leigh was given the Alexander Walker Special Award for his contribution to the film industry, and Sally Hawkins - who stars in Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky - won the Peter Sellers award for comedy.
Mark Digby, production designer on Slumdog Millionaire - which is tipped for a host of honours at the upcoming Academy Awards including Best Picture - won the technical achievement gong.
