I haven't seen the very final cut but have seen the work in progress (repeatedly) at crew rushes and showings of the film in it's later stages.
It's funny, the characters are endearing and it's visually incredible - a level of detail and sense of reality that fully justifies the long process of stop motion animation.
The relationship between the Captain blundering through life and his second in command trying to keep him on course forms the backbone of the film, but behind them are a cast of eccentrics and larger than life characters that keep the interest on 2nd, 3rd and umpteenth viewings.
I enjoy the complete contempt for historical fact and the weird twisting of famous characters, play spot the anachronism!
What I don't like.. not much, one or two jokes seem a bit 14 year old boyish, but that's being picky.
