Picnic at Hanging Rock review
20th May 2012
I first watched this in my teens, it was aired around the time the final chapter of the book was released in the late 80's.... I think. I found it a magical story, and the final chapter made a lot of sense.
When the book was originally released, the publisher convinced the author, Joan Lindsey, to drop the final chapter, they felt it was a bit too...... well, wouldn't want to spoil it.
She agreed, on the condition that it would be published after her death.
Another bit of trivia is that the Director, Peter Weir, when presenting the movie to the producers was forced to add in footage, as they felt it wasn't long enough! So unlike most movies, the director's cut is shorter than the original release.
This is an odd little movie, I, personally loved it. But if you enjoy world cinema packed with story and atmosphere, this is worth a watch
