Academy Award winner T-Bone Burnett and four-time nominee Danny Elfman will collaborate on the score for The Hunger Games, Lionsgate have announced.
The film - based on the first book from Suzanne Collins’ million-selling trilogy - is in capable hands with Burnett as Executive Music Producer, producing songs for the film and soundtrack, and Elfman assisting on the score.
63 year-old singer-songwriter Burnett picked up a string of accolades with co-writer Ryan Bingham for their song The Weary Kind from 2009 drama Crazy Heart.
Elfman’s career has seen him compose for more than 60 films among them Spider-Man, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland, plus receive Oscar nods for his work on Men in Black, Good Will Hunting, Big Fish and Milk.
The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, takes place in a fictional nation where a teenage boy and girl from each of its twelve districts are forced into a televised fight until just one survives.
Jennifer Lawrence (X Men: First Class, Winter’s Bone) stars as heroine Katniss, and Woody Harrelson as her alcoholic mentor.
The film is scheduled for release on 23 March 2012.
