Brit director Danny Boyle has revealed that he wants to breathe life back into Renton and Begbie with a follow-up to his 1996 rave, Trainspotting.
Boyle – who is currently gearing up for the January release of his latest endeavour 127 Hours, starring James Franco - has declared that he intends to make a sequel adaptation of the novel, Porno by Irvine Welsh.
"It will happen, I think," he told Cinematical. "We have a very strong idea that it would be a wonderful thing to re-approach, where they've all aged clearly into a mid-life kind of crisis..."
Boyle’s big-screen drama, starring Ewan McGregor, is a famous re-telling of the 1993 novel, Trainspotting, written by Welsh. The original was given an Oscar-nod for its impressive adaptation, and banked £11 million at the box office.
However, Boyle is adamant that money isn’t an incentive; he wants to stay true to the story and the characters created by Welsh.
"It won't be just cashing in. We'll look at these guys a whole generation fell in love with, in a certain kind of way.
“They've aged, just like we all do. It will be a very deliberate and imaginative approach to it rather than just a sequel which is cravenly a business decision."
If the sequel gets given the final go-ahead it will reunite Boyle with McGregor, who famously fell out with the director over his casting choices for The Beach.
