Warner Bros. say they will be removing that famous “Mike Tyson” tattoo from Ed Helms' face for the DVD release of The Hangover Part 2, later this year.
Ongoing court issues surfaced last month when Tyson’s tattoo artist, S. Victor Whitmill, filed an injunction to prevent the use of the design in the sequel, claiming copyright infringement.
The week of the film’s release, U.S. District Court Judge Catherine D. Perry rejected Whitmill’s lawsuit, claiming that the decision to remove the tattoo would prove too costly to the studio at such a short notice.
However the U.S. District Court Judge also informed Warner Bros. that Whitmill would likely succeed in his case as the court hearings continued.
In public documents released, the studio stated that home video release of the film, which is scheduled for early December 2011, "would allow Warner Bros. sufficient time to make the change if it becomes necessary."
Both sides are meeting next Thursday, with the continuing trial set for 21 February 2012.
