Man of the moment, James Franco is adding yet another string to his bow, starring in a saucy new indie drama, entitled Cherry.
According to Variety, novelist Stephen Elliott’s directorial debut will also star Heather Graham and Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel.
Franco already has ties to scriptwriter, Elliott as he optioned his memoir, The Adderall Diaries with a view to producing it through his company Rabbit Bandini.
The story follows an 18-year-old girl who moves to San Francisco and enters the adult film industry. Franco will play a drug-addled lawyer with whom she becomes involved.
Graham revisits a familiar role as a pornographic actress who tries her hand at directing, only to become obsessed with the young girl. Patel will play the girl’s best friend and potential love interest, while Lili Taylor is in negotiations to play her alcoholic mother.
Franco will have to fit Cherry in before he begins shooting Oz: The Great and Powerful, which is scheduled to start in July. Cherry is due to begin filming on location in San Francisco in June.
