James Franco’s schedule could be about to get even busier, as rumour suggests he’s hot favourite for Disney project Oz, the Great and Powerful, to be directed by Sam Raimi.
Heat Vision Blog reports that whilst official negotiations have yet to take place, Franco is first choice after recent pass from Johnny Depp and the previous withdrawal of Robert Downey Jr.
Set to begin shooting in the latter half of 2011, the Joe Roth production could see Franco working with Raimi for the first time since the Spider-Man series.
This high priority prequel to L. Frank Baum’s original Oz story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, concerns a young illusionist, who is carried to the fantasy land via the unfortunate collision of a hot air balloon and a tornado.
Franco’s profile is running high after his Oscar nominated performance in Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours. He will also present the Oscars ceremony later this month with Anne Hathaway.
