British audiences will soon get another chance to judge the acting talents of recent Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg, as his indie film Holy Rollers has secured UK distribution.
Independent distributor Crabtree Films will release the film, with Managing Director Nick McCaffery commenting, “We are absolutely thrilled to be distributing a film of this calibre. We are massive fans of Jesse and believe that the UK is going to love Holy Rollers.”
UK audiences are already big fans of Eisenberg, who was shortlisted for last year’s BAFTA Orange Rising Star award and this week received an Oscar nod for his outstanding performance in 2010’s The Social Network.
Holy Rollers is the feature film debut of director Kevin Asch and stars Justin Bartha (The Hangover 1 and 2), Ari Graynor (Whip It, Youth in Revolt) and rapper-turned-actor Q-Tip.
The film was a hit at last year’s Sundance Film festival, with highpraise for Eisenberg and Bartha’s intense performances.
Inspired by the recruitment of Hasidic Jews as drug mules between Europe and America in the late nineties, Holy Rollers tells the story of a young man, Sam (Eisenberg), who is drawn into a shadowy underworld stretching from the streets of New York to the clubs of Amsterdam.
Crabtree are expected to announce a theatrical release date soon.
