Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in his own production of The Wolf Of Wall Street.
Red Granite CEO Riza Aziz and vice chairman Joey McFarland have bought the rights, effectively giving the project the go ahead.
DiCaprio will play Jordan Belfort, a real-life convicted fraudster who has now become a motivational speaker. DiCaprio’s Appian Way company with Jennifer Killoran will be producing alongside Alexandra Milchan's EMJAG Productions.
DiCaprio’s has had an adaptation of Belfort’s memoir in the works for some time, with Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese both having shown interest in directing. The project was previously with Warner Bros. but it did not come to fruition.
Terence Winter – executive producer on The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire – has written the script, which chronicles Belfort’s rise and fall on Wall Street, his party lifestyle, drug addiction and eventual indictment in 1998 for securities fraud and money laundering. Belfort spent 22 months in federal prison. He has now been sober for 14 years.
There is no date production start date, as yet.
