The follow-up to last summer’s hit X-Men: First Class, is at last underway with director Matthew Vaughn signing on to helm the sequel.
According to a report on Deadline, “Fox has just closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to come back and direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer back as producer”.
After the critical acclaim the prequel received, there has been a lot of buzz regarding a sequel with the original cast members also reportedly reprising their roles.
With Vaughn back on, it is also safe to speculate that he will bring Kick-Ass cohort and screenwriter Jane Goldman on board to help with the script.
There is still no word however on when this project will start shooting, and whether James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence will find the time to sign on the dotted line, as they are juggling busy schedules.
And then there is Vaughn himself who is currently involved in multiple projects. It could be a long time coming...
