Will Smith’s alien busting exploits in Men in Black III have been put on hold because of script problems, in what is becoming a running joke in Hollywood.
Problems began in December when filming was suspended with the first act already completed. But the remainder of the script isn't written and after months of re-scheduling the film is still on hiatus.
A full draft of the script was written by Ethan Cohen before filming began. However, there are claims that it was Will Smith who took issue with the original draft.
A source involved with the production told The Hollywood Reporter: "He's become very enamored with aspects of screenwriting," but the actor's process, "takes a long time."
In the meantime, David Koepp, who wrote the script for the original film, has been brought in to help the situation.
The film’s budget has escalated to $200m, which Sony claims will be compensated heavily by a tax break they received from the state of New York. But with such a high budget, they will need a historically unprecedented tax break to bring the sum down to anything manageable.
