Michael Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes, has bought the rights to a script based on Zombies Vs. Robots, a comic book story that does everything it says on the tin.
The script for the movie, which will be called Inherit the Earth, was written by JT Petty who wrote of The Burrowers and videogame Splinter Cell.
The story is based closely on the comic series, which centres on a young girl who is the last survivor on earth. To make things more interesting, she is protected from a race of intelligent zombies by a group of robots.
Platinum Dunes has been responsible for a group of reboots of classic horrors such as Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In this case, they’re not so much rebooting a franchise as fusing two genres together – and with Cowboys Vs. Aliens coming out later this year, fusing genres seems to be in fashion.
We know that Bay is at home when it comes to robots, so it will be interesting to see how introducing zombies into the equation will turn out.
