The rumours about Mila Kunis being cast in Oz, the Great and Powerful have finally been confirmed.
According to Variety, Sam Raimi’s Wizard of Oz prequel will see the actress play Theodora, a witch who turns to the dark side after the Wizard turns down her sexual advances.
Kunis, who became famous with her role on TV comedy That 70s Show, received rave reviews for her darker performance in last year’s Black Swan.
The film will see her reunite with actor James Franco, who has been cast as the Wizard. The two played a drugged-out couple in the Tina Fey and Steve Carell comedy Date Night.
Casting is still underway on other major roles, including good witch Glinda.
The film is a different Wizard of Oz prequel to the popular Wicked the musical, a film version of which is still stuck in development.
While the two films had previously been seen as competing, with a director yet to sign on to Wicked, Raimi’s version is likely to win the race to cinemas.
A 2013 release is planned.
