Competition at this year’s 84th Academy Awards is set to be fierce, with Martin Scorsese’s Hugo dominating 11 categories and silent homage, The Artist raking in 10 nods.
The nominations, which have just been announced live in L.A. by actress Jennifer Lawrence, outlined the main contenders in this year’s race including, George Clooney and Brad Pitt who will go head to head for Best Actor.
Meanwhile, The Iron Lady herself, Meryl Streep faces stiff competition from Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara, Glenn Close and Viola Davis for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Vying for Best Picture are; The Artist, Hugo, The Descendants, The Help, Midnight In Paris, Moneyball, Tree of Life, War Horse and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
On the day the more obvious front-runners will face off with a few surprising, but deserved candidates, including the likes of Demián Bichir who has clinched a nomination for Best Actor in A Better Life.
The 84th Academy Awards takes place on 26 February 2012, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.
