Quentin Tarantino has batted off harsh criticism for alleged nepotism, during his position as a judge at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

The Kill Bill director – who led the jury at the festival – has denied any favouritism towards fellow industry pals, such as former flame Sophia Copploa and Alex de la Iglesia, and is standing his ground in the face of such defamatory comments.

According to the BBC, Tarantino told reporters he, "wasn't going to let anything like favouritism affect me at all.

"I was just going to literally respond to the film. There was no me steering any direction."

Italian newspaper film critic Paolo Mereghetti has put Tarantino in the line of fire, writing: "The presidency of Quentin Tarantino runs the risk of turning into the most obvious conflict of interest possible if you remember that Somewhere and Road to Nowhere were charming and interesting in their own ways, but nothing more than that.”

Coppola received Best Picture for Somewhere, whilst Alex de la Iglesia scooped two gongs, including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Balada Triste De Trompeta.

While Tarantino's mentor Monte Hellman was presented with a special trophy for lifetime achievements withing the film industry.
