Warner Bros. studios are in talks with actress Julia Ormond to play Superman’s biological mother, Lara, in the upcoming Man of Steel.
According to Deadline, nothing is set in stone, but it looks like a deal may be closed soon.
It was announced last week that Russell Crowe was the forerunner to play Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El, and while he has not officially signed on, rumours suggest it is likely.
Actress Connie Nielson is said to have been offered the part of Clark's mum, which would have reunited her and Crowe for the first time since Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, but these talks seem to have faded.
Ormond and Crowe could be joining a cast that includes Henry Cavill (as Superman), Amy Adams (as Lois Lane), Kevin Costner (as Jonathan Kent) and Diane Lane (as Martha Kent).
Man of Steel begins production this summer, and while it has no official release date yet, it's expected to arrive in December 2012.
