Director Terry Gilliam will receive the Fellowship Award at this year’s 17th Bradford International Film Festival, it was revealed earlier today.

Artistic Director, Tony Earnshaw announced the news of Gilliam’s accolade, which honours a practitioner who has made significant contributions to several areas of filmmaking.

In response to the honorary award, Gilliam said: "To be honoured by such an important festival pre-posthumously will force my family to treat me with some respect while I'm still alive.  I will always be grateful for that."

Festival goers will be given the opportunity to enjoy screenings, including; Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Twelve Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. And Gilliam’s latest short film, The Wholly Family, is also showing.

Actress Claire Bloom is set to receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, while the festival will also pay tribute to German rising star, Thomas Arslan.

Earnshaw added; “We are very excited to welcome Terry, Claire and Thomas to the Festival this year and I am personally looking forward to having the opportunity of seeing their great films on the big screen once again.”

Full programme details and guests for the 17th annual Bradford International Film Festival (BIFF) will be announced on 23 February.

The festival runs from 16 – 27 March.
