Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises has acquired a prospective new ally or villain played by rising actor Josh Stewart, Variety reports.
The 34 year old – whose acting credits include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Law Abiding Citizen and a lead role as Arkin in 2010’s The Collector – is confirmed for the Batman franchise.
Nolan’s team are keeping the part closely under wraps, but with a string of baddies already lining Gotham’s crime infested streets, it seems likely that Stewart could fall under Batman’s wing as an ally.
Old familiars Christian Bale and Gary Oldman will be reprising their roles as Batman/ Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon, while new additions to the cast include; Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake.
Filming is presently taking place in London, however a recent casting call for Pittsburgh revealed the Caped Crusader’s next haunt.
The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for a July 2012 release.
