Warner Bros. has officially announced the commencement of principal photography on The Dark Knight Rises, the final instalment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
Sneaky set photos and sightings have already revealed the current shooting location in London, but it wasn't until yesterday that Warner Bros. officially disclosed the production details in full.
In a press statement, the studio announced that filming will span three continents, taking in New York, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles as well as sites in India, England and Scotland.
Christian Bale is returning to star as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Anne Hathaway is playing Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy is baddie Bane, Marion Cotillard is Miranda Tate and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is John Blake.
Other cast members include Michael Caine as Alfred, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.
Hans Zimmer also returns to compose the score.
Interestingly, Warner Bros. has stated that Nolan will make greater use of IMAX® cameras than on the previous films which, “marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX® cameras.”
They added that, “The results were so spectacular that the director wanted to expand the use of the large-format cameras for this film.”
The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release in July 2012.
