Fox have just announced a reboot of The Flintstones to be helmed by Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane.
Deadline reports that The Flintstones will be produced jointly by 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros Television. Dan Palladino (Gilmore Girls) and Kara Vallow (Family Guy) will serve as executive producers alongside MacFarlane.
Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment at the Fox Broadcasting Company said in a statement: “The Flintstones are among the funniest and most beloved characters in television history, and we can’t wait to introduce them to a whole new generation on Fox.”
The reboot has been in the planning stages for some time after years of complicated negotiations between 20th Century Fox TV, where MacFarlane works, and Warner Bros Television, which claimed rights to the series, after taking over Hanna-Barbera.
MacFarlane is himself a former writer and animator for the production company.
Production on the animated series is scheduled to begin in Autumn 2011 in time for a 2013 premiere on the Fox network.
