The King’s Speech is storming ahead in the award stakes, with seven Golden Globe nods, on top of the five wins it picked up at the British Independent Film Awards previously this month.
Leading man Colin Firth faces the possibility of scooping Best Actor, while fellow cast-mate Helena Bonham Carter is in the running for Best Supporting Actress.
The remaining five nods go to; Tom Hooper for Best Director, Geoffrey Rush, for Best Supporting Actor, David Seidler for Best Screenplay and the film has also secured a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Drama.
However, the film has some stiff competition from The Social Network and The Fighter which have been recognised in six categories. While Black Swan and Inception have secured four nods and 127 Hours, Burlesque, Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist have gained 3 nominations.
Firth battles it out with his younger counterparts; The Social Network’s Jesse Eisenberg, 127 Hours’ James Franco, Blue Valentine’s Ryan Gosling and The Fighter’s Mark Wahlberg for the Best Actor Award.
The Golden Globe announcements were made in Los Angeles yesterday by actors; Katie Holmes, Blair Underwood and Josh Duhamel.
