Viggo Mortensen, is “a person of interest” for the role of General Zod in the Superman re-make, Superman: Man of Steel, according to Heat Vision.
Snyder had previously claimed that General Zod would not be in the film as he featured so heavily in the previous films and series, but it seems Zod could back on the agenda with Mortensen making a villainous debut.
The re-make, helmed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan, has already attracted attention following rumours that Kevin Costner could be a number of characters including, Editor of the Daily Planet Perry White.
Mortensen - who is best-known for his role as Aragorn in the fantasy epic, Lord of the Rings - is also currently in talks for a lead role in Snow White and the Huntsman.
If Mortensen's Snow White deal doesn't go through, he would be free to make Superman with Snyder and Nolan.
