Vin Diesel, star of the decade-long Fast & Furious franchise, has confirmed that in addition to the recently confirmed sixth movie, there will also be a Fast & Furious 7.
Speaking to THR, Diesel confessed that the scale of the story in the next instalment requires a seventh film, the script for which is being written alongside the sixth’s.
“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space,” he admitted.
The previous film which saw the return of Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot and the welcome addition of Dwayne Johnson, proved the most successful film in franchise history.
“We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’" he further explained.
Fast & Furious 6 begins shooting next year once Diesel wraps up Riddick 3, with the release date already set for 27 May 2013.
