Redford to play Rickey in Robinson story
The Natural star Robert Redford is returning to the baseball diamond for his next movie role - he'll portray beloved Brooklyn Dodgers boss Branch Rickey in a new Jackie Robinson biopic.
Rickey is credited with the integration of the team in the late 1940s after signing baseball great Robinson, who became one of the sport's legends.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about the role, Redford says, "No one really knows the Rickey part, the political manoeuvres and the partnership they had to share. It's the story underneath the story you thought you knew."
