Ribisi consoled by Beckinsale after violent movie scene

Actor Giovanni Ribisi felt "pathetic" after filming a violent scene with his Contraband co-star Kate Beckinsale because the Brit was the one consoling him after he had to repeatedly smash her head into a mirror.

The Gone in 60 Seconds star portrays a ruthless drug boss in the upcoming Mark Wahlberg film, but he struggled to come to terms with the brutality of his character and was left "freaked out" after one particularly harrowing scene with Beckinsale.

He tells WENN, "It was horrible doing that. I cringed at the violence. Before each take it would be like, 'What am I doing? I hate this.' It freaked me out and she was just incredible about the whole thing. It was funny because she was actually consoling me, which is just even more pathetic."

Ribisi admits he was hesitant about taking on such a dark role, but he threw himself into his research by spending hours watching documentaries about jailed convicts in a bid to master their mannerisms.

He says, "Before I'd accepted the role I was terrified to even jump in; the idea of living in a dark place like that and doing this character for that long. The character lived in prison for a while which informed his disposition, so I watched prison documentaries, 40 or 50 hours of that."
