Wyatt stunned by success of Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Rupert Wyatt has been rendered "speechless" by the U.S. box office success of his Planet Of The Apes prequel because he didn't expect such a warm reception from fans and critics.
The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starring James Franco, stunned film experts in America when it opened at the top spot this weekend (05-07Aug11) with takings of £34 million.
Wyatt admits he was just as shocked to see the ape epic become such a popular choice with film fans, but he hopes the movie's success will convince studio bosses to greenlight a sequel.
He tells the BBC, "The reaction has been so strong that we'll hopefully get to do it again.
"For a Hollywood blockbuster, it seems to have got such strong reviews. All of the critics that I read and respect have really gone for it. I'm speechless."
