Brief synopsis of Mother of Tears

Mother Of Tears is the finale to the saga that began with the international blockbuster Suspiria and continued with the classic Inferno from Italian horror maestro Dario Argento.

In the heart of modern Rome, an urn is found and brought to a young archeologist, Sarah Mandy. But what Sarah doesn't know is that the urn belongs to the world's most powerful witch, the Mother of Tears. She unwittingly unleashes a demonic power intent on destroying the city and everything in its path. When the Mother's minions and henchman brutally murder Sarah's co-worker and come after her, she takes refuge with an old priest and discovers her legacy - that her own mother was murdered years before by the Mother of Tears, and that only Sarah has the power to end the destruction. She must find and stop the Mother, before it is too late.

Rated - 3 starsNot bad, but not that great either...

This is typical Argento: there are moments of genuine creepiness and a fair few sequences that are actually quite scary. Sadly, these are interspersed between the director's usual flaws: a hammy script and performances that are barely the right side of wooden. Add to this the odd bit of ropey CGI and a plot dashed off on the back of an envelope and you've got a film that, like the curate's egg, is unfortunately good only in parts.

As a longtine fan of Dario Argento this film only serves to prove the point that his career as a horror film director is well and truly over. It is appallingly bad - bad acting, script, direction and dialogue. No wonder audiences have laughed at this film at festival screenings. There are some gory set-pieces, but even they can't help save this clunker. Rent Suspiria or Deep Red instead and see what Argento used to be capable of and don't waste your time or money on this dud.

EXTREMELY poor effort. Not a patch on Suspiria. Poor acting; poor special effects; 2 characters are given a lot of important ( to the story ) dialogue and their English is atrocious, I would rather have subtitles and Italian language than this. If this took Argento many years to write he shouldnt have bothered. I was never too struck on Inferno but that looks a masterpiece against this crap. Lousy ending too.Bizarre use of ex wife Daria, and why once again does Argento feel the need to have a nude ( in the shower) scene of his daughter?

This film is one of the worst films I have ever seen ! I have no idea who Argento is or why people seem to worship him but at the end of the day this film fails on all fronts.. It isn't scary, the so called "Gore" is so unrealistic it is at times laughable.. The acting is so wooden it defies belief.. Me and my wife thought the film was dubbed to begin with as the dialog was so bad. How anyone can give this film 5 stars is baffling. Please, take my advice, do not watch this film.. Without a doubt the worst film I have ever seen and I have seen some pretty shocking stuff recently !!
