Brief synopsis of Resident Evil

Includes the films NIGHT WATCH, ALIEN VS PREDATOR, and RESIDENT EVIL. NIGHT WATCH is a dark apocalyptic tale of a perpetual battle between light and dark, light being the human race and dark being a race of monsters. In ALIEN VS PREDATOR, a group of archaeologists find themselves fighting for survival when they discover a number of aliens buried in the ice. Their survival rate is hampered further by the arrival of more aliens on a training mission. In RESIDENT EVIL, a research laboratory is invaded by a bio-engineered virus and Alice and Rain must put a stop to the spread of the deadly bug.

Paul Anderson makes amends for his lacklustre Mortal Kombat here with another video game adaptation. A single-minded tale of genetic research facility workers accidentally turned into ravenous zombies, it's a relentless throat-grabber. Hinging on grisly special effects, breakneck pacing and hard-hitting fight sequences, Anderson at least racks up the tension to claustrophobic levels. It really is like watching a video game come to life — should that appeal — as Milla Jovovich and her commandos move through progressively more dangerous levels to wipe out the undead. As with the film's source material, there's no enduring substance here. However, the nerve-jangling score, co-composed by shock rocker Marilyn Manson, gives it an extra frenetic edge.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Frenetic, frantic, mindless action movie that offers much less enjoyment than the computer game on which it is based.

Rated - 4 starsDone the game proud

When I heard that my favourite PSX game was going to be made into a film, I cringed. This could go horribly wrong. Fortunately, I needn't have worried as I booked my cinema tickets.

The film based around the T-virus producing Umbrella Corporation sees the mainframe computer the Red Queen shut down to contain un outbreak of the T-virus. They think she's gone mad and killed everyone. They send in a security team to shut her down. They succeed, although they hadn't realised that shutting her down would open all the doors (common sense obviously not their strong point) and then the fun begins.

Rock solid performances from all the cast (especially Milla Jovovich) with good special effects did not disappoint and did the game justice. The security laser scene being particularly memorable.

Just one bite, one scratch from these creatures is sufficient. And then, you become one of them.

... and keeps the plot line in keeping with the Playstation games. There's some really fab grisly moments to keep gore fans happy, but as soon as the computer animated monster appears the film slips downwards and loses whatever credibility it tried to cling to. Watch if bored.

Rated - 4 starsEXCELLENT!

An excellent movie! I have never played the PS2 game (mainly because i freak out and panic when something in a video game starts to chase me!) so i never had any expectations to begin with but this movie was far better than i'd expected.

I wasnt sure how frightening this movie was going to be to start with and sat with the remote in my hand, ready to turn it off at any moment, but the movie turned out to be closer to an action movie than a horror!

Still I thoroughly enjoyed it and a week later I just had to have a copy of my own.

If your into zombie action movies this is definately one to watch!

An excellent film. Not quite in keeping with the playstation game of the same name, but I find the story line much inproved in this game being made into a film.

It is enjoyable to watch (for young and old alike) if you like action films.

I was impressed viewing it as it turned out much better than I expected it to.
