Resident Evil on DVD (2002)
RelatedCritics ReviewsPaul Anderson makes amends for his lacklustre Mortal Kombat here with another video game adaptation. A single-minded tale of genetic research facility workers accidentally turned into ravenous zombies, it's a relentless throat-grabber. Hinging on grisly special effects, breakneck pacing and hard-hitting fight sequences, Anderson at least racks up the tension to claustrophobic levels. It really is like watching a video game come to life — should that appeal — as Milla Jovovich and her commandos move through progressively more dangerous levels to wipe out the undead. As with the film's source material, there's no enduring substance here. However, the nerve-jangling score, co-composed by shock rocker Marilyn Manson, gives it an extra frenetic edge. Halliwell's Film Guide Frenetic, frantic, mindless action movie that offers much less enjoyment than the computer game on which it is based. Members ReviewsReviews Voted Most Helpful |
