Brief synopsis of Be Kind Rewind - BLU-RAY Version

Music-video-director-turned-auteur Michel Gondry continues to charm with the low-tech offering, BE KIND REWIND. Set in dreary Passaic, New Jersey, the comedy centres on two of the town's residents: trouble-making Jerry (Jack Black) and well-meaning Mike (Mos Def). Mike works in a video store in an age where the VHS is long dead, but the store's owner, Mr. Fletcher (Danny Glover), doesn't seem to be in any hurry to change. When Mr. Fletcher leaves town for a trip, he entrusts his store to Mike with one piece of advice: don't let Jerry in the store. But after some mischief, Jerry returns to the store in a strange state. Not only is he weirder than usual, but he's also magnetised, which causes the entire store's stock to be erased. In order to keep the struggling business afloat, Mike and Jerry begin remaking the films in the store one by one. Their hilariously low-budget versions of films such as GHOSTBUSTERS and RUSH HOUR 2 soon begin to draw attention and business to the store, but that creates a whole new set of problems for the pair.
Though Gondry's three previous fiction films--HUMAN NATURE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, and THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP--were all essentially love stories, BE KIND REWIND captures another kind of romance. Both the writer-director and his characters are in love with the cinematic medium itself, and their devotion shows. This is simply a hilarious comedy, fun for film fans of all types, which celebrates the sheer joy of watching and making films.

Total Film

It takes a special talent to wring so much warm, humane comedy out of such a screwy premise. But the real triumph is how Gondry uses it to champion no-budget indie filmmaking, salute cinema's unifying properties and thumb his nose at the Hollywood system. Bravo!

I fell asleep watching this and couldnt wait for it to finish. What a load of crud. Jack black must be desperate for movies. And as for Danny Glover...shame on him.

Very disapointing. Firstly, the idea that they would make their own version of Ghostbusters to fool Mia Farrows char into thinking it was the real Ghostbusters 2 movie is the stupidist idea ever. Despite that I found the film one big disappointment.

Rated - 0 starsWorst film EVER!!!

Multipl3 from Worthing [Highly rated reviewer] , 09/08/2008

Ive seen some right awful films in my time. But this is the first time a film (that I was DESPERATE to watch by the way) was so bad Im actually lost for words!!!!

It was turned off at the point where people were queuing up outside the store which is about halfway I guess...

The plot was nonsensical and the acting was pathetic. Black was un-funny and the rest were just utter amateur!

DO NOT RENT THIS FILM! You WILL turn it off and be left utterly disappointed! 0/5

You have been warned

Idea was brilliant and some very funny bits early on..... making the films....but all that stuff about a jazz singer......yawn.....

Get another film instead unless you really like Jack Black

One of the worst films I have ever watched. I did manage to sit through it though so I suppose that's something. The idea that they could trick someone into believing that their short couple of minutes film was made in hollywood is absurd. The rest was just weird. Jack Black can really do so much better than this...
