Good game but if you have Fifa 08 to simular EA do This Every World Cup our Euro So No Supprises there. But graphics are good and game play is good the new captain youre country mode make it worth a rent even if you have Fifa 08.

If Euro 2008 was going to be nearly as good as FIFA 2008 then it should do very well. And yes Euro 2008 for the PS3 is nearly as good as FIFA.

Gameplay has improved, it is smoother and you have more control over your players, shooting from outside the box has improved and one touch passing is now more efficient. The online game modes are excellent, in particular the Online Knockout tournament mode, you select a team and are randomly paired with another online player who is in the same knockout round as you. Also the highly advertised captain your country mode is a nice addtion, you compete against three other individuals in your team either controlled by another human player or the AI. I found this suprisingly interesting and currently have spent more time on this than any other offline game mode. As expected from EA all kit licences are there but some teams seem unlicenced (as alway Netherlands have made up players and Wales do not have the real names either). The penalty shootouts are also a nice touch this time around, unlike FIFA 2008 it is not possible to place the ball in the top corner everytime, like in real life you may now hit the cross bar or blast the ball over if you go for the top corners, so you can hit it low and risk the keeper saving it, or hit the ball high and hope you don't miss the target.

Probably the only dissapointment with this game for me was the graphics. Compared to FIFA 2008 this game looks awful. The cutcenes are the same as FIFA but when the ball is in open play it is difficult to tell which player is which. Gameplay is vital for a good football sim but it also needs to look good. Why EA have managed to make this game look worse than a previous title I do not know.

It seems EA have taken a step in the right direction by making small editions to help improve gameply, but have taken a large step back by choosing not to improve the look of the game and actually making them look worse.

Rated - 4 starsGood, but could be better.

Firstly let me just say that I own PES2008 and not FIFA08, have been a PES guy for years but after playing the demo I had to try it out for real.

I didn't like FIFA08, the game moved too slow, tended to be very defense-orientated and was pretty much the opposite of what PES is. EA have improved on the speed of the game and made it more of an attack-minded affair than that of FIFA08.

Captain Your Country is, in my opinion, the best game mode on offer here. It's pretty much the same as Be a Pro but this time your match rating determines whether or not the manager thinks of you as a potential captain for the finals. You truly have to work to keep your rating high starting in the B team and working you way up through the team along with 3 other players all wanting to be captain. Scoring goals helps but you get just as much credit making a great play to put someone through on goal as you do scoring one yourself, which is nice.

Now onto gameplay, graphics and all that.

Visually, I think FIFA08 is better but it's not an overly bad looking game, just one that EA could have made look a lot better and considering this came out long after FIFA I'm not sure how they've managed to make this look worse.

As for gameplay I preferred this to FIFA08 and in places PES too, this game won me over early on and if FIFA09 plays like this i may get both PES and FIFA in the autumn. The CYC mode is a definite winner and the overall feel of the game is very authentic, it provides the solid realism of FIFA but with the speed closer to that of PES2008 which is a combination that EA have pulled off well here.

The audio is great, commentary is something many complain about and some turn off completely but it's welcome here and helps with the overall authenticity of the game.

Overall, I'd say 4/5. UEFA Euro 2008 is a mixture of FIFA08 and PES2008 which ultimately makes this is a very addictive footie game. I recommend at least a rental if you are tempted, it's the sort of game that begs 'Just one more match' over and over again until you realise you've played for over an hour longer than you set out to.

Rated - 3 starspassing to slow

granty080 from Dundee [Highly rated reviewer] , 08/05/2008

at first the game came across quite good but again another football game let down by poor respone to the controller. It seemed to always pass the ball a second after you have pressed the button which i found annoying as you couldnt take the ball closse to an opponent then pass as you were tackled. Great idea with the online knockout compitition.
