This has to be one of the best Movies I've watched in a while. Very good, acting is great, characters are superb and Ryuk the Death God looks fantastic. If you love ther series, you are guaranteed to Love This.

Rated - 2 starsJust not as good as the Anime

A customer from Anstey , 20/08/2008

Sorry to rain on the parade! I would advise people to watch the Anime as it is superior. That said the Anime begins to trail off after a while (beyond where the film ends).

The end of the film was weak for me, I thought they'd write something new to tie off the story (or maybe even tease about what was to come) but all they did was set it up for the follow up.

Maybe I was looking forward to it too much but if you've watched the Anime you are getting nothing new here, in fact you are getting less. If you haven't watched the Anime then maybe you'll like it.

Gave it an extra star for the original author.

Rated - 0 starsThis film is terrible

ROGUEMALE from Bristol [Highly rated reviewer] , 26/08/2008

Trust me stay away from this film it is a convoluted turd of a film, kind of like a horror version of Infernal Affairs that goes on and on and on . . . moreover, I must have asked myself about ten times during the film, but why? And the way it papers over the holes you gotta see it to believe it - but don't!

Rated - 3 starsOriginal and fun but not great

FilmSage from Aylesbury , 08/09/2008

A highly intelligent teenager finds the god of death's 'death book' and is given the power to decide who dies. He soon finds himself in a battle of wits against an equally intelligent teenager helping the police try to discover his identity and just how he manages to kill.

This is a very unique and clever film with a very clever and interesting plot, which also dabbles with debating the morality behind deciding who dies. I was very impressed with the originality but not so much with implementation as is so often the case with such radical, yet brilliant plotlines. I was also impressed with the ability to continue the storyline for the length it does without making it tired.

Despite this there are let downs like the computer generated effects are not needed and very poor, considering the year it was mad. The directors inability to create an atmosphere that sucks you into the storyline is also dissappointing.
