Brief synopsis of Kate And Leopold

In this romance novel come to life, Meg Ryan plays the titular Kate, a career-driven market researcher who's been burned by love. Her science-obsessed ex-boyfriend (Liev Schreiber), who lives in the apartment upstairs from hers, says he's found a portal to travel through time and has brought a nineteenth-century nobleman, Leopold (Hugh Jackman), back with him. Kate's not buying it, and she angrily calls him crazy. But when her irritating ex is laid up in the hospital, she reluctantly assumes responsibility for the seemingly helpless stranger, Leopold. At first baffled by his forthrightness and old-fashioned chivalry--complete with white horse!--Kate soon finds herself falling in love with Leopold despite her best efforts. But if he doesn't return to his own century, the fabric of time could be disastrously altered.
BACK TO THE FUTURE plus WHEN HARRY MET SALLY equals KATE AND LEOPOLD, a charming, idealistic romance that will make you believe in true love. In addition to engaging performances by Ryan, Jackman, and Schreiber, James Mangold, the film's director, appears in a tongue-in-cheek cameo as an irate film director, and Spalding Gray stars as Schreiber's psychiatrist.

Rating of 2 stars out of 5 Radio Times

Romantic comedy queen Meg Ryan plays cute again in this mediocre offering that attempts to freshen the usual formula by throwing a dippy time-travelling plot into the mix. It's a rather disastrous combination. Hugh Jackman plays Leopold, Duke of Albany, an Englishman abroad in 19th-century New York who falls through a time portal to the present day where he meets the overly quirky Ryan and woos her in the old-fashioned way. But what's a gal to do when her man has to go back to his life in the past to ensure that his descendants have a future? With this genre, the staple story of boy meets girl is often complicated but rarely is it so implausible.

Vapid romantic comedy, with its endorsement of the past as a time when men were men and women did as they were told.

Rated - 4 starsMeg Ryan is truly charming

This film is suprisingly good, but it does have to be said that the undoubted star of it is Meg Ryan, she puts in such a charming performance, when the other cast members seem slightly out of their dephts she relieves them. She adds a modern spin on a other wise preety ordinary two dimensional charecter, Haugh Jackmon also puts in above and beyond the call of duty, the two leads obviously have chemistry and the script enables them to be playful with their parts. The actual idea behind the film is preety ludicrous, a weird science guy finds a rip in time and goes back thousands of years but dosn't realise hes brought somebody back with him. Also the story is predictable, but not in a bad way, more in a homely safe way, at it's hard its a love story, but there is comedy, bits of drama, emotional scenes and tension. The scenery is truly amazing and very glossy, its good to see the old and the new incorporated nicely. Critics probably wouldnt like this film because it is just fluff, but its glossy well acted fluff ( and isnt it good to watch a bit of fluff now and again anyway?)This movie will apeal to most people.

A nice escape from reality for incurable romantics. More suited to the dreamy female collapsing on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon. Not the best from Meg Ryan but watchable nonetheless

A well acted and lighthearted romance/comedy. I'm not generally into slushy 'chick-flick' movies, but if it's a chilly sunday afternoon, stick the fire on, snuggle up and pass the time with this watchable, easy going film! It stars the small guy from Road Trip, for the lasses, and some time traveling antics for the lads. Slightly predictable, but watchable never-the-less...just above average rating!
