Brief synopsis of 10,000 BC - BLU-RAY Version

Director Roland Emmerich might have set this action epic in prehistoric times, but audiences can expect plenty of high tech special effects in this film from the man that brought INDEPENDENCE DAY and THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW to the screen.

Empire

Undeniably spectacular... Entertainingly mad, rip-snorting throwback to vintage Saturday matinee fare, with all the swell set piece thrills state-of-the-art technology can throw at it

Hollywood Reporter

10,000 BC works just fine as an action Western with handsome actors in striking costumes and a few CG predators, which are giddy fun

Sight and Sound

An early mammoth-hunting sequence... is genuinely impressive, with CGI attending to each wind-ruffled, pachydermic hair

Rated - 2 starsNot a bad film, just not anything I haven't seen before!

The film draws obvious influences from Apocalypto, Stargate and 300 (a little too obvious at times). This film is great if you're looking for something to to entertain the kids or show off your new Hi-Def TV & Blue-ray player. But just don't expect too much from the storyline or you'll be left disappointed.

Did the makers of this film do ANY research in order to make this film at least remotely archaeologically accurate. For a start, in 10,000 BC there was no way they would have had domesticated horses, or indeed cities given that farming didn't arise until about 6000 BC. I'm also pretty sure that there wouldn't have been man eating dark chocobos in 10,000 BC! The whole narrow interpretation of prehistoric society annoyed me, too. There's no actual insight in this film, there's no attempt to make it authentic or to actually consider what prehistoric people might have been like. It's a very lazily made film, with all the emphasis on big explosions, massive monsters and extravagant use of dramatic license. It's a film to watch if you don't want to think about what you're watching, but if filmmakers taking liberties with historical and archaeological findings annoys you, then don't.

This is quite possibly the worst film I have ever seen. The film becomes laughable at within the first 10 minutes, well basically the instant you see just how inaccurate the characters are and how bad the 'clutching at straws' story line is, really from then on it was a real struggle to actually keep the disc in the machine. Various scenes have obviously been nicked from other far better films, Braveheart, Stargate are blatantly obvious examples. You get the impression that the film started of life when someone in Hollywood came up with a CGI mammoth, then wondered what to do with it. Ok forget the awful story line do the effects make it worth watching? Well I do have to admit the effects are good and watching it on Blu-ray makes everything visually rich and pleasing, definite eye candy, however don't be fooled by this film, it's a turd in tin foil, not a genuine silver nugget!

Watch Apocalyptico if you want the same story better made.

Cliche story of a quiet village being visited by slave merchants...
