Brief synopsis of Resident Evil 5

The biohazard threat has not ended! Just when it seemed that the menace of Resident Evil had been destroyed, along comes a new terror to send shivers down player's spines. Chris Redfield, returning Resident Evil hero, has followed the path of the evil literally around the globe. After joining a new organisation, Chris heads to Africa where the latest bioterrorism threat is literally transforming the people and animals of the city into mindless, maddened creatures. Chris must take on the challenge of discovering the truth behind this evil plot. In Resident Evil 5, Capcom will teach players to fear the daylight as much as they have feared shadow in previous games.

Rated - 4 starsGod Damn It!!!

JaxxRated from Oldham [Highly rated reviewer] , 15/03/2009

This is me at my most pessimistic.

I have had this game for three days now, I have also finished it. Many say it is the easiest Resident Evil game to date, having not played them all I'm unable to agree; I have played Resident Evil 4 however which is probably the most similar to this in style.

I hate survival horror; mainly because it is fiddly and dull. Resident Evil being the only exception for quite a number of years. But I have played all the main series of Resident Evil, that being 1-4 and I have been a big fan of the franchise and Capcom ever since I first found a game that had an engaging plot, some extremely cool heroes and villains, and took me more than two days to finish I have awaited the day when they would bring out more of the same in HD and next gen gaming, I am slightly disappointed with Resident Evil 5. The change to action horror actually worked well to date and this didn't insult the franchise, in fact it's quite the opposite; this game is awesome and dare I say much better than Gears of War, which I find seriously overrated. But and to me it's big but, it's far too easy for Resident Evil.

To give you some perspective; it took me weeks and months to complete the others, this took just three days.

Maybe I'm just better than I was, but I'm thinking it's more to do with the fact that it's only got one simple puzzle, only one barely a challenging boss(even on normal) and a companion who if she isn't controlled by a human is just there to heal and annoy you. Or Maybe I'm just being picky because...

It's a phenomenal game just too short, too easy because of the lack of actual skill involved and has a stupid split-screen(seriously what were they thinking with that one, just make it half the screen; then I can see what the hell is going on.)

I'm going to go finish it on veteran and hope I unlock some decent stuff this time. Peace.

Rated - 4 starsBetter than resi 4?

pete4000 from Norwich , 13/07/2009

Quite simply if you liked Resi 4 then you wont be disapointed by this. Resi 4 was my favourite game on the cube and although in my opinion this is not quite as good as its predisessor its still a fantastic game in its own right so don't be put off. New ways of playing have been added which Resi 4 was lacking including 2 player co op through the main game and online play so if you get stuck on a level search the web for a partner to help. I actually went out and purchased this game because Resi games always have replay value and this particular installment didnt let me down. This game is not the longest game and you could probably complete the story in 1 or 2 days playing but making zombies heads explode will never get old and i could quite happily play through this game again and again.

This game for me, was a massive let down. I'm a huge fan of the rest of the Resident Evil series ( except that one controlled by the gun.. awful ), but this for me has really just ended my interested.

As many people have mentioned, the game is just ridiculously easy, in just 2 days, on a medium setting the game was finished, and im pretty sure that even hard setting, it still wouldnt provide much of a challenge.

The control of the games where an absolute joke. Even after the playing the game for a while and having a good understanding of what I was doing it still felt clumsy and dull. Yes its over the shoulder so there are restrictions. But when you compare to say Gears Of War, this simply will not do.

The original resident evil games had you on edge all the time, I remember playing the first when i was younger and you hated moving into any new room or corridor through fear of a single zombie. Not in this, at any one time you can fighting 20,30 or even more enemies, and even then, its not very taxing. The feel and atmosphere of the game has been drastically lost. I think merely being in chapters, and having a shop inbetween each level spoiled it mostly for me. That and the fact that there is no puzzles, it's always so striahgt forward where you have to go, from beginning to end, you don't need to think to play this game.

Despite the massive let down of the game, there is a few good points. Some of the scenes in the game, and some of the boss battles look absolutely amazing. When played on a large full HD system with surround sound, it is very very impressive. Graphics and use of sound in this game are second to only a few select games. I heard somebody mention the graphics not being so good because it a multi-system title. i.e Xbox and PS3, bloody fan boys don't have a clue.

The only reason i've been able to give this 2 and a half stars is for the multiplayer side of it. It can be a lot of fun, and some of the dullness of the single playe game has been made up for with side games, but still this is not enough to redeem what could have been a great game...

Please capcom, i beg you, go back to the old style of game play and scare the socks of us!

2 + 1/2 Stars

I recommend checking out Silent Hill Homecoming.. They have reverted back to their old ways, and its a very creepy chilling game.

Although resident evil 4 was impressive, Chris Redfield enters the fray with his own unique style and power, while still keeping most of the most intense features of the last game.

Although somewhat slower than Leon, Chris is more powerful, and this time him and Sheva (played by cpu or online partner) tackle what seems to be terrorist use of Las plagas in Africa, and a new unknown foe.

Haunted by memories of Jill Valentine after seeing she may yet be alive, Chris finds himself greatly outnumbered, fighting countless foes both small and large, and best of all, he wishes to settle the score with his Arch nemesis Albert Wesker once and for all.

Fans and newbies alike should try/buy this game immediately, as it is an undoubted classic of action and gore.
